Hector Parra

Hector Parra enjoys helping others explore their creativity and discover their passion for music. As a multi-instrumentalist, my musical journey began as a drummer in a garage band with my middle school buddies. Next, as the bassist in my high school Jazz band, I gained knowledge of music theory and fundamentals. Then, in my college years, I studied musical composition and recording arts as a guitarist. With my musical origin rooted in rock/metal music, I also have an affinity for other genres such as latin, jazz, blues, funk, and world music. In the 25+ years that I’ve been involved in music and performing arts, I’ve learned that one of the best ways to connect with anyone is through music, regardless of age or skill level. Music is a universal language! “Where words fail, music speaks!” My ability to play multiple instruments allows me to connect with a wide variety of students who are looking to become musicians. I discovered my passion for music at an early age, but it wasn’t until after high school that I realized I had a proclivity for teaching. It only felt natural to combine the two and pursue a career doing something that I love. One of the most rewarding aspects of teaching, to me, is seeing that “ah-ha” moment in a student's eyes when everything starts to make sense to them. Along with helping them learn a new skill, I really enjoy building relationships with my students to better understand how to adapt to their individual learning styles. Hector teaches guitar, bass guitar, and drum set.
